Career

In November 2005, Way posted his songs on the music-based social community SoundClick. Following positive reviews on the site, Soulja Boy then established his own web pages on YouTube and MySpace.<ref>Soulja Boy @ YouTube</ref><ref>Soulja Boy @ MySpace</ref> In March 2007, he recorded "Crank That" and released his first independent album Unsigned and Still Major, followed by a low-budget video filmed demonstrating the "Soulja Boy" dance. By the end of May 2007, "Crank That" received its first air play and Soulja Boy met with Mr. Collipark to sign a deal with Interscope Records.

On August 12, 2007, the song appeared on the Emmy-award winning HBO series Entourage, and by September 1, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters charts.<ref>Vibe Magazine. Criticism

Although his debut album, Souljaboytellem.com, had a somewhat positive review from All Music Guide<ref name="amg tell em"/>, it generally was not critically well-received <ref>http://www.411mania.com/music/album_reviews/60943</ref><ref>http://www.nappyafro.com/SouljaBoyTellemcom-review.html</ref><ref>http://www.okayplayer.com/reviews/index.php/weblog/more/souljaboytellemcom/</ref><ref>http://www.rapreviews.com/archive/2007_10F_souljaboytellem.html</ref> not even by mainstream publications as Entertainment Weekly, which rated the album a letter grade of "D".<ref>Vozick-Levinson, Simon. not even by mainstream publications as Entertainment Weekly, which rated the album a letter grade of "D".<ref>Vozick-Levinson, Simon.
