Notable race events

In-Race

  • Blake and Paige's jeep broke down during Leg 2 causing them to finish last. It was rumored that Blake threatened to sue the production for not providing a time credit, since the rules never fully explained the arrangements in the event of a vehicle failure, which resulted in CBS's lawyers stepping in and awarding Blake and Paige with a time credit, thus eliminating Hope and Norm. However, Cyndi (of Russell and Cyndi) posted on the Television Without Pity forums that Blake and Paige did arrive before Hope and Norm and no time credit was awarded. But there was confusion about the vehicle replacement rules at the time. Henceforth, from Season 3 onward, the rules have stated that teams needing a replacement vehicle would not be given any time credit.
  • In Leg 3, Leg 4, and Leg 7 Peggy & Claire, Shola & Doyin, and Mary & Peach did not perform the final tasks and instead proceeded directly to the Pit Stop. They were eliminated in the order mentioned.
  • In Leg 12 what the show claims is an "old sugar mill" is actually the former campus of Maui High School outside of Paia.
  • No Detour clue was shown in Leg 13. As no team is shown onscreen reading the Snow Cat instructions at Trapper's Creek, it is speculated that all teams simply chose the same Detour option here, and the other choice was edited out. [1]
  • In the final footrace to the finish in Leg 13, Tara & Wil had the lead but were passed by Chris & Alex in a foot race with less than 40 yards to go. This marked the closest finish in The Amazing Race history.

Post Race

  • Tara and Wil have remained business partners after the Race.
  • Tara Lynch currently runs a crafting/sewing business online called FunktionHome.com. She has since remarried and has a young daughter.
  • Gary Rosen was an editor on The Amazing Race 5.
  • After the show, Blake founded a reality television network.
  • Blake Mycoskie's current project is Toms Shoes, a charity shoe company which will donate a pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair that is sold. The shoes have been featured in magazines such as Time Magazine, Teen Vogue and O, The Oprah Magazine.
  • Oswald and Danny were selected to race in The Amazing Race All-Stars. They found a politely friendly letter from Blake & Paige during the mail-sorting roadblock on Leg 4. They were eliminated in 4th place, the same position that they finished on this season.
  • A short video clip from the Detour in Leg 8 of Season 2 was shown in All-Stars, as Oswald and Danny performed a task while wearing a dragon's-head costume in Macau, and recalled similarities between that Detour and one on the Season 2 race in Hong Kong.
  • Chris got married while Alex is doing a project called "Around the World For Free", where he travels around the world starting with no money, and relies on the generosity and hospitality of locals to continue on.<ref> The Early Show
