"Gimme More" is a dance-pop song recorded by American singer Britney Spears for her fifth studio album, Blackout. Released as the lead single from the album late in 2007, the song was written during the period of her second pregnancy. "Gimme More" is her first released single since its predecessor, "Someday (I Will Understand)," from the album Britney & Kevin: Chaotic... The DVD & More . Dubbed as a comeback release for Spears, however the song does not highlight lyrics about her musical return instead it features racy content incorporating uptempo beats.

"Gimme More" was a commercial success hitting radio stations and digital stores during its pre-singles release. It was released in the form of CD in Australia on October 6, 2007. "Gimme More" was successful in North America topping Billboard's Canadian chart and it reached number three in the US Billboard Hot 100—it is her highest-peaking single in the United States since her 1999 number-one debut "...Baby One More Time". In Australia and the United Kingdom, it reached a peak of number three. Both in Australia and the US, the single was certified gold.

Gaining mixed reviews from contemporary music critics and publications, the single's accompanying music video received media attention as well. The footage chiefly introduces Spears' pole dancing which was panned by critics. On the contrary, the video was welcomed as an improvement to her highly criticized 2007 MTV Video Music Awards opening.

Writing, recording and inspiration

The melody of the track was recorded by Spears when she was seven months pregnant with her second child. In spring, Spears was spotted moving back and forth to studios, however, she did not contribute to the writing process of the song. The team started writing in Las Vegas and continued in Spears' house in Los Angeles. They resumed the writing process three weeks after she gave birth to the baby.<ref name="OK">"

Music video

Britney Spears in the music video of "Gimme More", singing and pole dancing in aura-like blue lighting.

Directed by first time director Jake Sarfaty,<ref name="Peoplevid"/> the video was shot in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles on July 19 and August 7, 2007. Spears handpicked the director and shot the video in two days. According to People, the production "was purely Spears's 'concept and her vision'."<ref name="Peoplevid"/> The footage's light systems changes from black and white with aura-like blue and pink hues to full blown color.<ref name="Peoplevid"/> The camera's position always moves out-of-beat giving the video a "raw and edgy look".<ref name="Peoplevid"/> Spears features a tattoo on her bicep and dresses in all black. She wears a leather vest, a studded belt and skimpy panties over ripped fishnet stockings.<ref name="Peoplevid"/> This is the second video in which Spears sports black hair, the first being "Toxic".

The footage incorporates Spears with dual roles: in one role, Spears is a brunette pole-dancing in a stripper's pole and an alter ego is a blonde version of her sitting at the bar with friends seemingly watching the strip tease while gazing at a mysterious man.<ref name="Peoplevid"/> In approximately the middle of the video, the brunette Spears takes off her top and uses it to cover her breasts, then continues to pole-dance, flipping her hair and occasionally dancing in a mirror. The blonde one keeps an eye to the brunette which Entertainment Weekly describes as "giddily staring at 'Stripper Britney',"<ref name="EW"> Slezak , Michael

I think the record is a f*cking great record. I think it's so on the mark with what's going on in the clubs today. But the tempo wasn't right for Europe and the main dance floors in America, so I got rid of the crap on it which I didn't think worked, speeded it up and gave it more structure and arrangement and more of a heavier club feel. They liked it. Now I have to do a radio edit, and hopefully that'll do well for her.
